Finally, Spring!

Isn't that just gorgeous? Behold the beauty that is a single magnolia blossom. I took this photo this weekend (Memorial Day) to capture the very first blossom we've ever had on our poor little magnolia stick/tree. I love magnolias, and miss the mature ones that would carpet the sidewalk in Chicago. We bought this root stock one of the first years we moved here- its at least 7 or 8 years old- and moved it from the front of the house (where we thought, "How lovely a magnolia by the front proch will be!") to the back garden. Hubby says the back yard has better soil. Whatever. I'm just glad its finally paying for itself, even if that's the only bloom we ever get.

So, I've not been blogging lately. Almost a whole month has gone by! Wow. No, I'm not being lazy, I've been so very busy with end-of-the-school-year crap that something had to give. Sorry.

I have been running more lately, too. This past weekend alone I ran two races, both for very good causes. Saturday I ran a 10K (57 minutes) to benefit the Salvation Army, and yesterday I ran a 5K (27:25) to benefit a "Lest They Be Forgotten" memorial for a local soldier who was killed in Iraq. Then I mowed the lawn, watched the Cubs win (finally! What a relief after those extra-inning losses!), and vegged out on the couch.

I think that me and Katie have found our next Sisters' Marathon, too: the Dunkin' Donuts Marathon in Cape Cod, MA. How much fun would THAT be?! Donuts? Cape Cod in the fall? We'll see what the other Running Sisters think; otherwise, I'll just do something local (or more local, like Detroit or Milwaukee).

The excitement never ends, folks! Have a great week.
